STOP CHILD ABUSE TODAY
Statistics on Child Abuse:
1. More than four children die every day as a result of child abuse
2. Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4.
3. Every 40 seconds in the United States, a child is becomes missing or is abducted.
4. Each year, 2300 are kidnapped by family members; and each year another 58200 are abducted by non-family member.
5. 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator in some way. 68 percent are abused by a family member.
6. 14% of all men and 36 % of all women in prison were abused as children.
7. For every incident of child abuse or neglects that's reported, an estimated two incidents go unreported.
8. It is estimated that between 50-50% of child fatalities due to maltreatment are not recorded as such on death certificates.
9. When sexual abuse occurs within a family, it is likely to continue for a period of time, even years, until it is discovered and stopped
10. 60% of reports come from teachers, law enforcement, legal representatives, or social service providers.
