Teddy Text works by employing the use of a programing tool called Arduino. Inside the stuffed teddy bear, there is an Arduino on the back and a button under the arm pit. This button is attached to the Arduino, which is programmed to send text messages through a wifi shield. When the button is pressed and held for about 20 seconds, the Arduino sends a message to a child abuse hotline that contains the GPS coordinates of where the bear is located.
Teddy Text is meant to be distributed by teachers and guidance counselors of schools to children they suspect are suffering from abuse in the home. Teddy Text would provide these children with a way to report their abuse without worsening their situation. Children are the most vulnerable members of our society and all deserve a chance to grow and flourish without violent and unjust obstacles in their way.
